Vibration exciter and non-standard climatic chamber for the accredited testing laboratory IDIADA Mladá Boleslav.

In the first half of 2019, we successfully implemented an interesting and non-standard climatic chamber solution for the accredited testing laboratory of IDIADA in Mladá Boleslav. This solution was designed for vibration testing combined with climatic influences. Thanks to thorough preparation of the entire equipment configuration, as well as the size and technical parameters of the solution, the accredited IDIADA laboratory is now able to cover up to 90% of all vibration tests for automotive interior and exterior parts.

Vibration exciter and non-standard climatic chamber

The LDS vibration exciter was supplied and installed by SVMTech s.r.o., our long-term partner for similar projects. The delivered vibration exciter enables both vertical and horizontal vibrations. An eight-channel controller from Vibration Research was used for its control and management.

We designed a climatic chamber for this vibration exciter: VÖTSCH INDUSTRIETECHNIK, model ClimeEvent VCZ 71300-5/V with a volume of 12 m³. This size of climatic chamber allows for testing larger parts and entire assemblies, such as dashboards, seats, bumpers, or car sections.

Automotive parts manufacturers can thus use the services of the IDIADA testing laboratory and test their products on the equipment according to standards such as BMW PR 308.01, VW PV1200, PV2005A, and others. Thanks to the installation of infrared heaters in the climatic chamber, it is even possible to test products according to the PV2005 B standard, which requires additional heating of tested parts by infrared radiation at specific temperatures and humidity levels inside the chamber. This makes it possible, for example, to test dashboards with localized temperature increases during vibration tests.

Solution by Kaitrade

However, it is not necessary to limit yourself only to testing automotive parts. The entire solution enables a wide range of applications and uses. Thanks to the thoroughly prepared equipment configuration, it is possible to test parts for example for rail vehicles, aerospace components, electrical installation equipment, military technology parts, and other larger samples.

To enable maximum utilization of this climatic chamber, we designed a configuration for three modes of use: for vertical vibrations, for horizontal vibrations on a slip table, and of course, for using the chamber without the need for vibrations. In this mode, the chamber functions as a completely standard climatic chamber.

We also considered the operation of this equipment. The designed chamber can be electrically adjusted both vertically and horizontally. This solution greatly facilitates daily work and handling of the chamber.

Technical parameters of the ClimeEvent VCZ 71300-5/V climatic chamber

  • Max. temperature: +180°C, min. temperature: -70°C
  • Cooling temperature change rate, according to IEC 60068-3-5: approx. 3.2 K/min (average)
  • Heating temperature change rate, according to IEC 60068-3-5: approx. 3.0 K/min (average)
  • Vibration exciter head expander: 150 kg, made of aluminum
  • Sample weight up to 200 kg (75% steel, 15% PVC, 10% glass)
  • Max. thermal compensation at -40°C, steady state: 4500 W

These are very impressive values for such a large climatic chamber, especially considering the non-standard design and extended capabilities of the entire solution. This configuration will provide the accredited IDIADA laboratory in Mladá Boleslav with wide-ranging possibilities, improve the return on initial investment, and optimize the long-term ownership costs of the entire equipment.
