Abrasion is mechanical damage to a material caused by prolonged exposure to rough or sharp objects. We understand abrasion as mechanical damage caused by friction against another surface. Thanks to our cooperation with SDL Atlas, we can offer a comprehensive range of devices for testing the effects of these influences. A typical example is the Martindale device. The principle of this device is more than 50 years old, as are the basic norms on which current standards are based. Martindale is a universal device capable of performing various abrasion and pilling tests. It uses precision components to ensure accurate and repeatable tests required by international and OEM standards. The compact base of the device is designed to save valuable test and laboratory space and provide maximum testing capacity.

Basic information

Two sizes of the device are available. The larger version can have 6, 8 or 9 test positions. It is also available in a smaller, 4 position version. The device is supplied with test sample holders for pressures of 9 kPa and 12 kPa, for standard abrasion tests. A side storage stand is available as an option for the 6, 8 and 9 head models. The current models offer a completely modern design, including wifi connectivity, remote control and monitoring via touch screens. The device is purposefully designed to improve ease of use and reliability of results. The lightweight moving plate, strong and solid base provide increased stability of the device, the sliding pad design reduces the noise of the moving plate itself. These are some of the benefits of the device. SDL Atlas supplies a wide range of test materials in a design specifically designed for testing on the Martindale tester.
