Impact hammers

Each PCB impact hammer is equipped with a robust sensor using patented ICP technology on its surface. The sensors in the impact hammers are so-called modally tuned for use in analytics. Thanks to this tuning, the structural character of the hammer itself does not affect the measurement results. The resonances of the hammer itself are eliminated in the measured frequency range to avoid influencing the measured data. The sensor built into the hammer measures the amplitude and frequency of the pulse that is transmitted by the hammer to the sample under test. The sample response itself is then determined using accelerometers coupled to the hammer in the measuring beam. This provides an accurate picture of the material's response to the hammer impact.

Basic information

These products have added value and include: Interchangeable impactors to tailor the energy transfer to the tested surface or material. The frequency induced by the impulse will thus correspond to the resonant frequency of the tested sample. Modally Tuned® ICP® sensor, for minimal influence of the result by the hammer itself. A wide range of measurement ranges and hammer sizes. In combination with multi-channel data acquisition, they represent a unique tool for determining the modal characteristics of components and entire structures.

Product use

Thanks to the wide range of sizes and ranges offered, they can be used in many areas of testing, such as: modal analysis of individual parts, their assemblies, or even entire products, detection of resonances of parts or their assemblies, detection of fatigue failures and cracks inside structures. The smallest models (086E80) can be used in detection of resonances of electronic parts and components and small modal analyses. The largest type (086D50), due to its weight and range, is also intended for determining the properties and health of building structures, such as buildings and bridges. We also have a suitable hammer for all applications between these two extremes.
