PCB Piezotronics offers a comprehensive range of dynamic pressure sensors for industrial use. Typical applications include combustion characteristics in gas turbines, their dynamics and possible instability, even in hazardous areas. Pressure drop monitoring in other types of turbines, such as water or steam. The sensors can also detect pressure fluctuations, pulses and turbulence in environments with high static pressure. They are ideal for monitoring the operation of machines such as compressors and pumps or for monitoring pressure in pipelines. They are available, for example, in versions with built-in ICP® electronics or as cartridge sensors, requiring further signal conversion to lower impedances. The measured pressure ranges cover a wide spectrum from slight vacuums to tens of atmospheres.
Sensors with built-in ICP® electronics are designed for temperatures up to max. 120°C (250°F) and are able to respond to very fast pressure changes, such as pulses and waves. They also allow for the detection of pressure fluctuations over time when exposed to very high static pressure values (up to 500 psi / 3.45 MPa). Thanks to the built-in ICP® electronics, they can be connected with two-core cables over long distances. They can withstand installation in very dirty operations without degradation. Cartridge sensors with an output requiring further impedance reduction using a converter are designed for very high temperatures up to 650°C (1200°F) and pressures. When used, for example, in a gas turbine, they enable continuous non-stop measurement of data characterizing the combustion process. They will thus serve as a source of information for monitoring the operation of these machines and early detection of possible fatigue failures.
As a signal source for control and safety systems of machines and plants operating with high pressures and temperatures, or their large fluctuations. In addition to gas and other turbines in power plants, PCB pressure sensors are often used to sense working pressures inside pumps and compressors of all designs. Sensors with patented built-in ICP® electronics ensure high sensitivity and the ability to carry the signal over longer distances if it is not possible and safe to collect them near the machine. Sensors with charge measurement are then designed for truly extreme pressure and temperature conditions.
