PCB Piezotronics offers products related to torque measurement in several categories. These are torque transducers for installation in measuring units, such as dynamometers, or special test standards for rotating machines and electric motors. They are also sensors for measuring tightening forces and torques in tools, implements and bolted joints. This field extends to a large extent from testing to use in industry, or rather in metrology. The last group are special transducers for measuring forces acting and transmitted to a car wheel during in-service testing. These sensors are mounted directly on the wheel hub. There are two torque transducer technologies on offer, covering the entire range of requirements. Rotational sensors, where the sensor itself is seated in a shaft and can thus rotate freely together with the measured object (shaft, screw, etc.). And reaction sensors, which do not rotate on their own, but sense forces acting in the direction of rotation.
Reaction sensors are suitable for use in a wide range of applications. They are typically installed in torsion testing machines, dynamometers or other applications where the range can be limited to 360° or less. Rotational transducers are high-precision sensors for detecting rotational speed (RPM, rad). These are durable, mechanical sensors where the sensor rotates in a shaft inside the chassis, also suitable for industrial applications. A ring sensor is a special type of transducer, with two shafts, designed to be placed between a torque source and a rotating object or load. TORKDISC® sensors are sensors designed for direct connection to a torque source and for applications requiring high measurement accuracy. The output is generated by measuring the friction force of the disc surfaces inside the sensor. There are a number of sensors for measuring tightening forces and screwdriving tools. Given the very wide range of their uses, the offer is truly diverse and we will certainly find a suitable solution.
Torque sensors find application in many applications. Let's mention only the most basic ones: dynamometric tests, testing electric motors, tattooing hydraulic pumps and other rotating machines, testing devices for torsional resistance and torque detection, testing automobile brakes and wheels, measuring frictional resistance of bearings and mounts.
